IPEM is the sole National Member Organisation representing the UK in the International Organization for Medical Physics, the International Federation for Medical & Biological Engineering and the European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics.
International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering
The IFMBE is primarily a federation of national and transnational societies, with 63 affiliated organisations and a total membership of 120,000. These professional organisations represent interests in medical and biological engineering. The IFMBE is also a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) for the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO). This is the bioengineering international counterpart for IOMP.
International Organization for Medical Physics
IOMP has 84 national members representing over 20,000 medical physicists across the world. IOMP shares its registered address with the IPEM National Office in York and it is from here that IPEM provides financial, business and administrative support to IOMP.
International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine
IUPESM represents the combined efforts of more than 40,000 medical physicists and biomedical engineers working on the physical and engineering science of medicine. It is responsible for organising the triennial world congresses and is also the body that represents medical physicists and biomedical engineers at the highest international level.
European Federation of Organisations for Medical Physics
EFOMP was founded in 1980 to act as the umbrella organisation for all National Member Organisations and there are currently has 36 national organisations, representing more than 9000 medical physicists and clinical engineers.
American Association of Physicists in Medicine
AAPM is a scientific and professional organization, founded in 1958, composed of more than 7500 scientists whose clinical practice is dedicated to ensuring accuracy, safety and quality in the use of radiation in medical procedures such as medical imaging and radiation therapy. One of the primary goals of the AAPM is the identification and implementation of improvements in patient safety for the medical use of radiation in imaging and radiation therapy.
International Atomic Energy Agency Radiation Protection for Patients
It publishes up to date information for patients, the public and health professionals about the risks, benefits and safe use of radiation in medicine.
