Physiological Measurement Special Interest Group

Physiological Measurement (PM) is the science of transforming physiological information into meaningful data to contribute to diagnosis or treatment. Measurements of physiology help us understand how the body is functioning, and are widely used in healthcare to inform clinical decision making.

The PM Special Interest Group (SIG) represents the interests of IPEM members, including Clinicians, Clinical Scientists, Clinical Technologists, and Researchers in academia and industry.

The group focuses on specific areas of physiological measurement which are of current interest to the group, the community, and the wider profession. Activities in recent years have covered a wide range of topics, from quality management and accreditation in clinical PM services, to the latest research on pulse oximetry, and potential clinical applications of wearable technologies. In recent years the group has run webinar series, hosted remote events, and organised in-person events, as well as contributing to SCOPE (IPEM’s magazine) and IPEM’s annual conference.

PM SIG members are IPEM volunteers who meet several times per year. If you want to join the committee, follow the "Volunteer for IPEM" link below and read the role description. The committee shares its work and knowledge via an online Community of Interest, which is open to everyone with an interest in the subject area. If you follow the link below you can join for free.  This online platform also has a list of the SIG committee members.

The current Chair is Peter Charlton, and if you want to get in touch please email pc657@cam.ac.uk .
