Rehabilitation and Biomechanics Special Interest Group

Rehabilitation engineering involves the use of science and technology to design, manufacture, provide, and maintain devices that assist people with disabilities.  Biomechanics is the science behind the movement of the human body.   Related clinical services include:

  • Wheelchairs and Specialist Seating
  • Prosthetics and Orthotics
  • Electronic assistive technology(including environmental controls and communication aids)
  • Gait Analysis

The Rehabilitation Engineering and Biomechanics Special Interest Group (REBSIG) provides a platform for professionals interested in rehabilitation technology, assistive devices, and biomechanics to:

  • Exchange ideas
  • Collaborate on research
  • Develop best practices

REBSIG organizes events, workshops, and networking opportunities to help members stay informed about new research, technological developments, and clinical practices in these fields.

Our Aims

  • Develop an annual program of educational meetings and webinars.
  • Create and promote resources for community of interest use and workforce development in rehabilitation engineering.
  • Evaluate and assess the impact of emerging technologies and developments in rehabilitation engineering and biomechanics.
  • Assist in latest research, drafting publications and legislation.
  • Support communication and cooperation among members

The members of REBSIG, who organise these activities, are IPEM volunteers who meet several times a year. If you want to join the committee, follow the "Volunteer for IPEM" link below and read the role description.
