Centenary Joel Lecture
THIS year's Joel Lecture marked the 100th anniversary of the Joel Chair, the first endowed professorship of physics applied to medicine in the UK — and one of the first such positions in the world.
From Sidney Russ in 1920 to the present incumbent, the Joel Chair is the oldest-established Chair in Medical Physics in the world. A century of scientific progress in this field was celebrated at the annual Joel Lecture in February at University College London.
The programme included two PhD speakers as well as the keynote Joel Lecture delivered by the former Head of the Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering at UCL, Professor Jem Hebden.
The Joel Chair is currently held by Professor Robert Speller, Joel Professor of Physics Applied to Medicine at University College London.
