Congratulations to latest cohort to complete Clinical Technologist Training Scheme

THE latest cohort of clinical technologists have completed the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine’s training scheme.

IPEM runs the Clinical Technologist Training Scheme, which is open to trainee clinical technologists who are employed in an IPEM Accredited Training Centre.

The aim of the training scheme is to provide:

• A robust, externally validated education and training framework for clinical technologists
• A means to recognise formal clinical technologist training, within the core scopes of practice, ensuring a workforce fit to practice
• A means to achieve registration on the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT)
• A means for clinical technologists practicing outside of the core scopes of practice to achieve an IPEM diploma in clinical technology.

The latest cohort of 19 clinical technologists who have successfully completed the scheme include: Daniel Burke, Nichola Cook, Luke Herron, David Hull, Ross Kidd, Robert Knight, Allan Laird, Eilidh McGowan, Gerard McKiernan, David McNeill, Eoin Moloney, Lisa Moore, Emma Oliver Taylor, Asima Riaz, and Naomi McCullough.

Iain Threlkeld, the RCT’s Registrar, said: ‘We would like to offer our congratulations to all those who have successfully completed the Technologists Training Scheme, which is a long established track to applying for RCT registration via the Primary Route. Applying to join the accredited RCT demonstrates a real commitment to the field of work and your ongoing professional development.

‘Becoming part of the clinical technologist community shows employers you are working to demonstrably high standards and practices.’

Professor Stephen O’Connor, IPEM’s President, added: ‘Once you have been awarded RCT registration, you can upgrade to Full Membership of IPEM, joining more than 4,600 medical physicists, biomedical engineers and clinical technologists working in hospitals, academia and industry. Becoming a full and active member of this community sets you apart – demonstrating a mutual commitment to pursuing the very best in professional achievement in practice, research and development.’
