HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh
IPEM President Professor Stephen O’Connor commented today on news of the death of Prince Philip:
'The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine is saddened by the news of the passing of His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
'IPEM was founded through the amalgamation of three organisations, including the Biological Engineering Society, BES, which was proud to welcome the Duke as their first honorary member. The Duke, who was very active in his support for all engineering disciplines, maintained a close link with the BES until it joined with the Hospital Physicists Association and the Hospital Physics Technicians Association, to become IPEM, in 1997.
'Throughout a long and distinguished career, the Duke of Edinburgh played a vital role in supporting science and engineering professions in the United Kingdom and across the Commonwealth. On behalf of IPEM members, I offer our most sincere condolences to Her Majesty and the Royal Family.'
