PhD in Work Bursary launched

A NEW bursary has been launched to help students wanting to undertake a part-time PhD in an IPEM-related field of interest.

The Institute will provide funds to help support a student who wants to study for a PhD at a UK university or appropriate research institute.

The funding is intended to only cover fees of up to £5,000 per year for a maximum of five years. No research costs or living expenses are included.

Professor Andrew Reilly, Director of IPEM's Science, Research and Innovation Council, said: 'By participating in research, physicists and engineers drive forward the science that will underpin the diagnostic and interventional techniques of tomorrow. It is a very real way in which IPEM members can contribute to improving healthcare. 

'The new PhD bursary scheme is intended to remove barriers to research training by supporting early career scientists already working in an IPEM relevant field to undertake a PhD part-time alongside their work.'

The scheme is initially planned to run for three years, with a single award being made each year.
