Science Technology Engineering Forum 2024

The second annual Science Technology and Engineering Forum (STEF) was held in Central Hall, Westminster 9th-10th October 2024. We look back on a successful event full of learning, making connections and being inspired by others.

The title for this year’s conference was Beyond Boundaries; collaborating for tomorrow’s innovative solutions.  With four main themes of Innovation, Environmental Sustainability, Workforce and Artificial Intelligence there was much to discuss and learn.

The breadth of these cross disciplinary themes was particularly inspiring and invited us to consider collaboration and innovation in new ways. It was very encouraging to hear the experiences of others in their work and how we might implement those ideas and findings into our own disciplines.

John Mallard Trust Lecture

We were delighted to welcome Professor Katia Parodi to deliver this year’s prestigious John Mallard Lecture. Katia spoke on the topic of New Prospects in Precision Image-Guided Particle Therapy.

Woolmer Lecture

Professor Wendy Tindale OBE, Scientific Director of Medical Imaging & Medical Physics, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals opened the programme with the Woolmer Lecture.  With fascinating insights she spoke about Multidisciplinary Collaboration in Technology Development & Evaluation - Opportunities, Challenges and Reflections.

With other keynote speakers including Professor Dame Margaret Whitehead, Professor Thomas ‘Rock’ Mackie and Dr Fanny Burrows speaking on a range of topics from the NHS net zero target, equity ethical issues in healthcare, and developments in radiation medicine. We were challenged and inspired by the fantastic work happening in all these areas.

A big thank you to all those who shared their expertise and research findings in a wealth of talks, poster presentations and personal experiences and views in our panel discussions.

STEF provided the opportunity to celebrate the work and achievements of our prize winners. Congratulations to;
