Dr Victoria Kidgell
I have completed an MEng in Mechanical Engineering, followed by an MRes and PhD in Civil and Computational Engineering, undertaking finite element analysis of bone, at Swansea University. I worked as a post-doc research associate using finite element analysis for stress-based design optimisation and analysis in industrial applications.
I retrained as a Clinical Scientist through the Scientist Training Programme and undertook my training at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust.
I work as a Clinical Scientist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I have worked clinically, specialising in physiological measurement in 3D motional analysis, functional electrical stimulation (FES) and foot pressures. I have also undertaken clinically relevant research projects, presenting my findings at national and international conferences.
I currently work as the Lead Clinical Scientist in the Medical Device Management Group (MDMG) within Clinical Engineering at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. I work with clinical teams to aid them in the procurement of medical devices, with a particular focus on the introduction of new and innovative technology. My goal is to bridge the gap between clinicians and engineers, procurement, finance and IT. I am involved in projects to assess the suitability of new devices to clinical practice within the NHS.
I am a chartered Scientist with IPEM and I am the current Chair of IPEM's Clinical Engineering Special Interest Group (CE SIG). I also successfully completed the CSO WISE Leadership Development Programme (2019 cohort). I previously held the positions of Chair and Audit Coordinator in the Standards Committee for the Clinical Movement Analysis Society of the UK and Ireland (CMAS).
